What does After Duty actually do?
You upload your service and medical records. After Duty reads them, lists the conditions you may be able to claim with the evidence behind each one, shows what's still missing, and estimates your combined rating. Then you share it all with your VSO or attorney through one read-only link.
What does the VA need to grant a claim?
Three things: a current diagnosis, something that happened during service (or an exposure, like burn pits), and a medical link between the two. Most denied claims are missing one of these. We show you which conditions have all three and which don't.
How do you check your work?
Around 1,900 automated tests run on the code — 57 of them on the VA rating math alone — plus a golden library of complete synthetic cases that runs through the real analysis pipeline on every build. If a change shifts any case's outcome, the build fails and a human has to look. The app also shows its work, so you and your VSO can check the reasoning. How we test it.
Where does my $11.99 actually go?
It pays the bills: hosting, the AI models that read your records, storage, and this website. What I'm working on next is better evaluation loops, so the outcomes are provable rather than asserted. I want those evals and results published openly so others can check them and build on them.
How do pricing and refunds work?
Pro is $11.99/month or $119.99/year (2 months free). Cancel any time: monthly is prorated to the next bill date, and the annual plan has a 7-day no-questions refund. Heavy AI users may hit a fair-use cap on analysis in a single month — your documents and prior analyses always stay available, and the cap resets the next month.
What happens to my documents?
Stored encrypted on Google Cloud, on HIPAA-compliant infrastructure. You can delete any document — or your whole account — at any time. We never sell your data or share it with third parties. How we protect it.
Why is the code open source?
Because we're handling your medical and military records, and you shouldn't have to take our word for how we handle them. The repo is at github.com/craftloopdev/afterduty. You, your VSO, the VA, or any veteran who codes can verify exactly what happens to your data.
What After Duty is not
Is this a VSO, an attorney, or legal advice?
No. A VSO can file your claim for free and represent you with the VA, and an attorney can represent you too. After Duty doesn't file anything, doesn't represent you, and isn't legal advice. It's the tool that helps you walk into that conversation organized — so they spend less time piecing your case together and more time advocating for you.
Is After Duty part of the VA?
No. After Duty is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department of Veterans Affairs. We use the VA's published rating schedule (38 CFR Part 4) as data, and filing still happens through VA.gov or your VSO, not through After Duty. Only the VA decides your actual rating.
Does AI decide my rating?
No — and nobody at After Duty does either; only the VA decides ratings. Inside the tool, AI reads your records and proposes where your evidence fits the official criteria, and every fact it extracts is shown to you for correction, because AI readers make mistakes. The rating arithmetic is the VA's own published formula implemented as deterministic code, and no AI output is consulted when that math runs. See the process.
